WELCOME:
A lot of our winter days are gloomy days without sun. Without our sun, we sometimes loose our excitement and enthusiasm for work. To get that enthusiasm back and get out of your normal routine for just a little while, watch and sign up for our continuing education times through the AGA newsletter. The next education time is a two-hour web conference scheduled on February 18th titled “Fraud Prevention”. The board is also currently working on an agenda for the May Symposium. It is starting to look like we have a great start to this agenda so watch for this information when it gets posted.

We are blessed with great friends and great jobs. However, some individuals are not in that same place in life. That is why we continue to work on community service to help those in need. Please be sure to watch for those luncheons that are taking donations to help these groups. For your convenience, we also post a list of items that are appropriate to bring at those luncheons.

Stay focused in these gloomy days ahead of us and winter will soon be over. Take care, my friends.

President’s Message – January 2015

I hope everybody has had a safe holiday while traveling to their various events. The weather has definitely cooperated with all our travelers.

Just a reminder that the Annual Tax Update at the Imperial Garden East is scheduled on January 22nd.

A confirmed future monthly luncheon is as follows: John Pohlmann from DNR speaking about plans, budget and funding regarding the Badger Ammunition Plant scheduled on April 23rd. Other tentative speakers are still being arranged for our February 26th and March 26th luncheon dates.

Stay tuned to our future newsletters. I am hoping that we can again dodge the ice and snow for these future continuing education dates.

The board is planning the spring Symposium. If you have any suggestions on topics of speaker recommendations, please send them.

Free 2-CPE ethics web conference to be held in Madison

free live web conference entitled, “How Do You Spell Success?  E-T-H-I-C-S!” will be presented via chapter-paid web conferencing on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS),1 West Wilson Street, Room 751, Madison, Wisconsin.

The presenter will be Frank C. Bucaro, CSP, CPAE, a professional writer and speaker on ethics and the author of the upcoming book, If Good Ethics is Good Business, What’s the Problem?  Frank has spoken, trained and written on the benefits of ethics for two decades.

The training objective is to learn techniques for applying ethical guidelines to a variety of professional situations. No matter what the setting, what the company or what the industry, everyone admits that good ethics is good business. This web conference will share with you insights, tips and techniques to help your ethics program truly become the foundation of a successful enterprise.  The program will explore these concepts:

E = Experience: Experience is not what happens to you, but what you make of what happens to you. Learn from the lessons of life and use that wisdom. Values are caught not taught. Think back, who modeled those life values to you?  That wisdom that stands the test of time.  Identify, embrace and integrate those values and in every decision you make in life.

T = Training: Train yourself to keep asking the question: “Am I doing the right thing, at the right time for the right reason?” This question is bound to keep you more ethically focused.

H=Hindsight: Hindsight gives us that opportunity to, hopefully, look more objectively into the past in order to analyze, discern, and when necessary, make appropriate changes.

I = Intuition: What does your “gut” tell you is the right thing to do? View intuition as your personal moral code, because deep down, you know what’s right and wrong! Tap this “gift” of self-reflection for it will lead to better decisions, which lead to better results!

C = Customer, Community: Here’s where people go “astray.” Your best advertising is word of mouth. Your worst advertising is word of mouth. What’s the difference? How you treat your people consistently and what is that treatment based on, should be your values, your ethics and the focus of building relationships.

S = Stewardship: Your mission statement, your values statement, every internal/external communication, all must reflect your commitment to stewardship.

The conference qualifies for 2 Continuing Education Credits (CPEs) upon request, which you can enter on the day of the conference. 

The DHS Office of Employee Development and Training (OEDT) and the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) Southern Wisconsin Chapter are sponsoring this conference.  The AGA national office charges a fee to chapters and others to host sites for the conference.  Our chapter paid the fee and is offering this conference free to both members and non-members.
